Diablo 3 will now be my full time job...

Post by Prometheus » August 7th, 2011, 11:18 pm

So Blizzard announced Diablo 3 will have an auction house system where you can post loot for real money. I am not sure how I feel about this. Supposedly it will cost a flat fee to post something which will keep AH spammers from flooding the market. When you post something you can choose in game money or real money. If you pick real money, when your item sells, blizzard takes a cut of that too. Then you have two options with that cash. You can keep it in a blizzard account to be used to buy things off the AH, or game time for WoW, things from the Blizz store etc. Or you can transfer it to a bank account but again, blizzard will charge you a third time to do this.

The loot table in Diablo is totally random. Certain bosses do not drop certain things. They might be set to drop a certain quality item but one could not just go out and farm for the Warhammer of Mighty Groin Knocking(I would buy an item named this.)

Still... it is an interesting micro-transaction system that could be interesting to dabble in. Wonder how it will turn out overall.

I'm glad to hear about the option to just use in game money. Personally I hate the idea of all of these micro-transaction games coming out, in addition to those free-to-play games, but it's where the industry is heading, I can't do anything but refuse to take part.

Also, you should take comfort that all of the gold farmers from WoW will have a new game to grind in. I think I just heard a groan coming from the direction of China's prisons.

I absolutely HATE microtransaction, and I'll not do anything to support games like that. Its just not worth it.

I am not a fan of micro-transactions either but you have to admit this model is an interesting one. Sure it ends up costing you a portion of your sale but you and blizzard end up profiting instead of the money flowing only one way.

I played Diablo I, and I did not like Diablo II.

I dunno if Diablo III is the game for me.

While it is yet another step for Blizzard down Activision's Evil slope; I can't say as I hate the idea too much. This sort of thing was available in diablo 2, just through less secure means. (ebay and other sites) Having a regulated source to spend real money on items should all but kill the black market, and that is probably a good thing.

Of course, this'll have the botting community working overtime to exploit the system for financial gain.

As long as they don't screw up Starcraft II, i don't care.
Diablo was never my franchise.

SC2 is fine, other than thrusting in my face my general terribleness at online RTSing. [smilie=fie.gif]

I'm with DC on this one. I swear, every time I started a match I got put up against one of those South Korean Star Craft world champions. Either that or it really was my general terribleness at online RTSing. I vote for the South Koreans making me look bad.

My issue with SC2, and other online RTS games is they turn into a twitchfest. In single player I like to take my time, set up a kickass defence, research my upgrades, expand, etc. In multi though if you do not have your ramps blocked off and three marines in queue by 47.9 seconds into the game... you a boned. Maybe turn based strat is where it be.

Yeah, and they nerfed the crap out of the only strategy I was any good at. (void ray rush...yeah, granted it needed nerfing, but not as much as it was.)

I hold out hope for Civ V's multiplayer.
